LiT’s pedagogical model combines theoretically informed coursework with experiential learning through structured, community-based internship placements. The present study provides the first empirical evaluation of the LiT program, reporting findings from a survey completed by 18 undergraduate students who participated in semester-long internships involving Spanish interpreting assignments with community partners, specifically focused on public service interpreting. The survey assessed students&apos; overall satisfaction with the academic program and internship, and their development of professional and performance skills through self-assessments. Results of the quantitative analysis show high student satisfaction with the overall academic program and, more specifically, internship experiences. Students reported significant perceived growth in competencies essential to effective public service interpreting, particularly in consecutive interpreting and management of professional boundaries. These findings underscore the value of integrating strategically designed coursework with experiential learning in public service interpreting, offering an adaptable model for institutions aiming to effectively prepare qualified public service interpreters and address growing multilingual demands in their communities.</dc:description><dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/latic/article/view/39101</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher xml:lang='en'>Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting, Ionian University</dc:publisher><dc:relation rdf:resource='https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/latic/article/view/39101/30222'></dc:relation><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0</dc:rights><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>Copyright (c) 2025 Stephanie Rodriguez</dc:rights><dc:source>2241-7214</dc:source><dc:source>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication</dc:source><dc:source>2241-4304</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='el'>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication; Τόμ. 9 (2025): Special Issue on Public Service Interpreting: Paving the Way to Social Justice Through Professionalization (Early Access)</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='en'>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication; Vol. 9 (2025): Special Issue on Public Service Interpreting: Paving the Way to Social Justice Through Professionalization (Early Access)</dc:source><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/1686691655'></dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>public sector interpreting</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>interpreter training</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>multilanguage interpreting</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>community interpreting</dc:subject><dc:title xml:lang='en'>Public Service Interpreter Training: Evaluating the Experiential Learning Approach of the Lives in Translation Internship</dc:title><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'></dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/article</dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Scientific-article'></dc:type><dcterms:created>2025-04-02</dcterms:created></edm:ProvidedCHO><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Δημοσίευση σε περιοδικό</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Publication in journal</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Issue-segment'></skos:broader></skos:Concept><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/1686691655'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Γλώσσα και Γλωσσολογία</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Language and Linguistics</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/473724010'></skos:broader><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc/1686691655'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://vocabularies.unesco.org/thesaurus/mt3.30'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/ekt-unesco/257176627'></skos:exactMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85077222'></skos:closeMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85074518'></skos:closeMatch><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Language &amp; Linguistics covers resources relating to theoretical, literary and historical linguistics as well as stylistics and philology.</skos:note><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Linguistics covers resources relating to all theoretical and applied aspects of linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
