A sequential chemical extraction procedure [S.C.E.P] for the partitioning of Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn has been applied to anaerobic stabilized primary sewage sludge [A.S.P.S.S] from Psittalia's wastewater treatment plant. The sludge was further treated with HNO3 in different concentrations and different contact time. 5%, 10% 15% and 20% v/v of HNO3 and for 10, 20 and 30 minutes of contact time have been applied. The acid extraction method is characterized from the fast removal of the metals. A sufficient metal amount, about 60% is removed by acid treatment (using 20% v/v HNO3). S.C.E.P. has been applied as well in the treated samples observing that the remaining metals are further stabilized. (EN)
