      "@value" : "The excessive use of fossil fuels makes it imperative to seek for alternative sources of \nenergy  and  fuels.  The  production  of  biofuels  forms  a  reliable  solution  for  the \nconfortation of the problem. Considering that the conventional raw materials \nused for \nthe  production  of  biofuels  are  also  a  food  source  and  their  cultivation  requires \nextended land areas, the interest for biofuels production turns to the exploitation of \nbiowastes such as food wastes. In the present thesis, we have studied the produ\nction \nof bioethanol from food wastes and in particular the effect of the pretreatment in the \nprocess.  Initially,  we  examined  the  effect  of  enzyme  loading  (Cellic\n® CTec2)\nduring  \nenzymatic hydrolysis of food\n-\nwaste as well as in bioethanol production. Food w\naste \nsamples were pretreated with liquid hot water in the presence of H\n2\nSO\n4\n(100 \no\nC , 3 h , \n3 % (w/w) concentration of H\n2\nSO\n4\n) and hydrolysed at enzyme loading of 10,20,40 and \n60  FPU/  g  dry  FW.  The  results  indicated  that  hydrolysis  is  favored  at  high  enzyme\nloadings.  Maximum  glucose  concentration \n55.67  g/L\nand  maximum  reducing  sugars \nconcentration \n98 g/L\nwere achieved using \n60 FPU/ g dry FW\n. Then, a \nnon isothermal \nsimultaneous  saccharification  and  fermentation  (NSSF)  process  operating  in  batch \nmode  was  appl\nied.  Samples  were  pretreated  with \nliquid  hot  water \nat  two  different \nconditions,  a  mild  one  (t=1  h, \nΤ\n=80\no\nC,  C\nH2SO4\n=1%,  w/w) \nand  an  extreme  one  (t=3  h, \nΤ\n=100\no\nC, C\nH2SO4\n=3%, w/w).  The pretreated material was prehydrolyzed using initially \na  commercial  glucoamylase  preparation  (Spirizyme   \n60  U/g  starch  FW, \nΤ\n=65 \nο\nC,  30 \nmin) followed by the addition of\nCellic\n® CTec2 at enzyme loading of 5, 10, 20, 40, 60 \nFPU/g cellulose FW \nfor 6 h at 50\no\nC. The maximum ethanol production was achieved \nvia the mild pretreatment for the loading of 60 FPU/g cellulose FW and found equal \nto \n24.89 g/L\n. Despite that, and taking under consideration the \nproduction \ncost, \n40 FPU\nwas  considered  as  the  opt\nimum  loading  for \nthe\nprocess.  Finally,  we  examined  the \ncombined  effect  of  temperature,  duration  of  pretreatment  and  concentration  of \nH\n2\nSO\n4\nsolution in the yield of \nthe\nprocess. \nA \nBox\n-\nBenkhen experimental design with 3 \nindependent  values  and  13  different \ncombinations  of  temperature,  duration  and \nconcentration\n, was applied\n.\nA batch nonisothermal simultaneous saccharification and \nfermentation  (NSSF)  process  was  applied \nas  described  above\n.\nM\naximum \nethanol\nconcentration \n29.96 g/L\nwas achieved \nwhen FW was pretr\neated at\n90 \no\nC, 1 h and 1% \nH\n2\nSO\n4\nconcentration, \nwhich is equivalent to a yield of \n83.06\n%\nof theoretical. During \nthat particular process, starch was removed at a percentage of \n90.34 %\nand cellulose \nat \n58.4 %\n, which was the highest percentage achieved"
