The impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) use on students' health (full text in Greek) (EN)

Παπαδημητρίου, Μαρία

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) make life easier for people and are therefore increasingly becoming part of their everyday lives. However, while they have many positive effects, they may also pose a threat, as the excessive use of ICTs has an impact on the physical and mental health of users. One of the groups that make extensive use of ICT is students whose lives are affected, both during their studies and afterwards. In this paper, a review of relevant Greek and foreign literature revealed that students' health is affected by the uncritical use of ICT, both directly e.g., headaches, musculoskeletal problems and indirectly e.g., teacher-student alienation. Therefore, in the context of its social dimension, the University is called upon to contribute to reducing the health risks and consequences for students and, hence, society as a whole, from the uncritical use of ICT.
