Κοτσακιόζη ΠαναγιώταΤο γένος Codringtonia (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) περιλαμβάνει οκτώ είδη. Τα είδη Codringtonia έχουν ενταχθεί στους κόκκινους καταλόγους των απειλούμενων ζώων. Κατανέμονται κυρίως στην Ελλάδα και εμφανίζουν μωσαϊκό πρότυπο κατανομής. Ο ενδημισμός του γένους, η μωσαϊκότητα της κατανομής των ειδών, η μικρή χωρική κλίμακα της διαφοροποίησης του και οι ιδιαιτερότητες του βιολογικού του κύκλου, καθιστούν το γένος αυτό ένα από τα πιο ενδιαφέροντα γένη χερσαίων γαστεροπόδων του Ελλαδικού χώρου. Από πού, πότε, με ποιό τρόπο και με τι «εφόδια» και προσαρμογές διαμόρφωσε αυτό το γένος τη σημερινή κατανομή του; Είναι ιστορικά ή οικολογικά τα αίτια που το οδήγησαν σε διαφοροποίηση, πώς αποκρίθηκαν τα είδη σε επίπεδο μορφολογίας και φυσιολογίας μέσα στο χώρο και στο χρόνο; Αυτά είναι μερικά από τα ερωτήματα που προσεγγίζονται στο πλαίσιο αυτής της διατριβής. Μέσα από μια συγκριτική μελέτη όλων των ειδών του γένους στηριζόμενη σε ένα φυλογενετικό πλαίσιο, γίνεται προσπάθεια να απαντηθούν αυτά τα ερωτήματα. Η συγκεκριμένη μελέτη είναι μια συγκριτική μελέτη των ειδών Codringtonia σε επίπεδο φυσιολογικών αποκρίσεων και μορφολογικής διαφοροποίησης και είναι η πρώτη συγκριτική μελέτη που γίνεται σε αυτή την ελάχιστα μελετημένη περιοχή της Ελλάδας. Ως εκ τούτου θέτει τις βάσεις για αντίστοιχες μελέτες που θα ακολουθήσουν και θα αφορούν άλλες ομάδες οργανισμών.The genus Codringtonia (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) consists of eight species that are registered in the red list of endangered animals as vulnerable. Codringtonia species are distributed mainly in Greece and exhibit a mosaic distributional pattern. The genus’ endemism, its mosaic distributional pattern, the small spatial scale of its differentiation and its unusual life cycle, turn the genus Codringtonia into one of the most interesting genera of terrestrial gastropods in Greece. From where, when, how and with what adaptations was its current distribution formed? Are there historical or ecological causes that led to this diversification? How did species diversify at the morphological and physiological level in space and time? These are some of the issues that this Thesis is concerned with. Through a comparative framework, that contained all Codringtonia species I tried to address some of these concerns. This study is a comparative study of the physiological adaptations and the morphological evolution of the shell and this is the first comparative study conducted in this least studied region of Greece.
