      "@value" : "AIM: To detect of colorectal cancer (CRC) circulating tumour cells (CTCs) \nsurface antigens, we present an assay incorporating cadmium selenide quantum \ndots (QDs) in these paper.\nMETHODS: The principle of the assay is the immunomagnetic separation of CTCs \nfrom body fluids in conjunction with QDs, using specific antibody \nbiomarkers:epithelial cell adhesion molecule antibody, and monoclonal \ncytokeratin 19 antibody. The detection signal was acquired from the \nfluorescence signal of QDs. For the evaluation of the performance, the method \nunder study was used to isolate the human colon adenocarcinoma cell line \n(DLD-1) and CTCs from CRC patients’ peripheral blood.\nRESULTS: The minimum detection limit of the assay\nwas defined to 10 DLD-1 CRC cells/mL as fluorescence was measured with a \nspectrofluorometer. Fluorescenceactivated\ncell sorting analysis and Real Time RT-PCR,\nthey both have also been used to evaluate the performance of the described \nmethod. In conclusion, we developed a simple, sensitive, efficient and of lower \ncost (than the existing ones) method for the detection of CRC CTCs in human \nsamples. We have accomplished\nthese results by using magnetic bead isolation and subsequent QD fluorescence \ndetection.\nCONCLUSION: The method described here can be\neasily adjusted for any other protein target of either the CTC or the host."

      "@value" : "Τα κυκλοφορούντα καρκινικά κύτταρα (μικρομεταστάσεις) ανιχνεύονται σε ποσοστό \nμεγαλύτερο από 30% των ασθενών με καρκίνο χωρίς κλινική και ιστοπαθολογική \nεικόνα μεταστάσεων. Σήμερα, για την ανίχνευση χρησιμοποιούνται μέθοδοι που είτε \nέχουν χαμηλό βαθμό ευαισθησίας (ανοσοϊστοχημικές και βιοχημικές αναλύσεις), \nείτε είναι πολύ ακριβές (RT-PCR). Σκοπός της μελέτης ήταν η ανάπτυξη ειδικών \nνανοανιχνευτών βασισμένων σε αντισώματα συζευγμένα με κβαντικά κοκκία \nσεληνιούχου καδμίου (QDs) για την έγκαιρη ανίχνευση των μικρομεταστάσεων.\nΗ μέθοδος συγκρίθηκε πειραματικά με κυτταρικές σειρές και με δείγματα αίματος \nασθενών με κυτταρομετρία ροής (FACS) και Real-Time PCR και έδειξε μεγάλη \nευαισθησία. Κάτι τέτοιο επιτρέπει τη μελλοντική ενσωμάτωσή της στην κλινική \nπράξη, καθώς προσφέρει μοναδικές δυνατότητες για την ανίχνευση μικρομεταστάσεων \nin vitro σε κλινικά υλικά ασθενών (αίμα, ορό, ιστό), αλλά και in vivo, καθώς \nκαθιστούν δυνατή τη μοριακή απεικόνηση των όγκων. Οι νανοανιχνευτές που \nαναπτύχθηκαν έχουν τη δυνατότητα ειδικής εντόπισης του όγκου όταν ενεθούν \nενδοφλέβια σε καρκινικά μοντέλα (xenografts) ποντικών.\nΣυμπερασματικά, η χρήση νανοανιχνευτών συμβάλλει σημαντικά στην ανίχνευση \nμικρομεταστάσεων, με χαμηλότερο κόστος και σε λιγότερο χρόνο από τις σήμερα \nχρησιμοποιούμενες μεθόδους, διασφαλίζοντας παράλληλα μεγάλη ευαισθησία. Η νέα \nαυτή τεχνολογία μπορεί να αποτελέσει σημαντικό εργαλείο στα χέρια χειρουργών, \nογκολόγων και ακτινοθεραπευτών, βοηθώντας στον καλύτερο σχεδιασμό της \nθεραπευτικής στρατηγικής και στη βελτίωση της στοχευμένης θεραπείας των όγκων."
