      "@value" : "Στην παρούσα εργασία, εφαρμόστηκε η ανάλυση συγχώνευσης γονιδίων με συγκριτική \nανάλυση 19 οργανισμών από όλο το φάσμα του δέντρου της ζωής, με το Trypanosoma \nbrucei, ένα πρωτόζωο, το οποίο προκαλεί την Αφρικανική Τρυπανοσωμίαση ή \nασθένεια του ύπνου στους ανθρώπους, η οποία σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις μπορεί να \nείναι θανατηφόρα, ενώ τα διαθέσιμα φάρμακα στις μέρες μας έχουν πολλές και \nσοβαρές παρενέργειες. Ο σκοπός της ανάλυσης ήταν να εντοπιστούν πρωτεϊνικές \nαλληλεπιδράσεις οι οποίες να μπορούν να προσεγγιστούν φαρμακολογικά, με την \nανάπτυξη σκευασμάτων τα οποία να μπορούν να αναιρέσουν μια ζωτικής σημασίας για \nτο πρωτόζωο αλληλεπίδραση. Εντοπίστηκαν συνολικά 49 πιθανές πρωτεϊνικές \nαλληλεπιδράσεις και έγινε η προσπάθεια να αξιολογηθούν ακόμα και προτεινόμενες \nαλληλεπιδράσεις που να αφορούσαν υποθετικές πρωτεΐνες, για τις οποίες προτάθηκε \nκαι μια πιθανή λειτουργία ή συμμετοχή σε βιολογικό μονοπάτι. Η μελέτη αυτή είχε \nως αποτέλεσμα να παράγει γνώση για περαιτέρω ανάλυση και εκτίμηση από την \nεπιστημονική κοινότητα, των προτεινομενων πρωτεϊνικών αλληλεπιδράσεων, με \nπαράλληλη ανάπτυξη της συνεργασίας με τομείς όπως η Δομική Βιολογία και η \nμοντελοποίηση των πρωτεϊνών, αλλά και η κινητοποίηση ερευνητών για πειραματική \nεπιβεβαίωση. Τέλος, εκτιμήθηκε η σημαντικότητα της συγκεκριμένης τεχνικής και \nέγινε σύγκριση με άλλες αντίστοιχες τεχνικές, ενώ η ανάλυση της εξελικτικής \nμοίρας των πρωτεϊνών που συμμετείχαν στα γεγονότα συγχώνευσης έδειξε ότι τα \nγονιδιακά αυτά συμβάντα (συγχώνευση/ διάσπαση) συμβαίνουν σε όλους τους \nοργανισμούς χωρίς εξαιρέσεις, με άλλες να είναι συχνότερα και άλλα όχι τόσο \nσυχνά. Επίσης εντοπίστηκαν πολλαπλά και ιδιαίτερα πολύπλοκα γεγονότα τα οποία \nπαρουσιάζουν ιδιαίτερο εξελικτικό ενδιαφέρον το κάθε ένα ξεχωριστά."

      "@value" : "In this work, the Domain Fusion Analysis (Rosetta Stone method) was applied, \nincluding 19 organisms throughout the branches of the tree of life, against \nTrypanosoma brucei, a protozoan, which causes African Trypanosomiasis or \nsleeping sickness in humans, which in some cases it is lethal, while the most \nmodern available vaccines have severe side-effects. The purpose of this \nanalysis was to detect protein-protein interactions which in turn could be \npharmacologically studied, and the development of drugs against this disease to \nblock the specific interaction could follow. Overall, 49 possible \nprotein-protein interactions were detected, and there was an effort to evaluate \neven the ones including hypothetical proteins, which led to a suggestion of \npossible molecular function or involvement in a certain biological process. \nThis work has produced valuable results which could be further studied through \nstructural biology or other experimental approaches so as to validate those \nprotein-protein interactions proposed here. Also, the significance of this \ntechnique was appreciated by comparing it with other methods in this field for \nsuch events. To conclude with, an evolutionary analysis of the proteins \ninvolved was carried out, showing that, events as gene fusion or gene fission \ncan happen to all organisms with other events being more common and others not \nso often. Some multiple events were also detected that seem to be highly \ncomplex, seeking to be evolutionary explained one by one."
