Η PC-1 λειτουργεί σαν \nένας πρωτεϊνικός υποδοχέας συζευγμένος με G-πρωτεΐνες ενώ η PC-2 λειτουργεί \nως δίαυλος ιόντων ασβεστίου. Οι PC-1 και PC-2 παίζουν ρόλο στις φυσικές \nδιακυτταρικές αλληλεπιδράσεις, στη διαφοροποίηση, στον πολλαπλασιασμό και \nστην απόπτωση, ενεργοποιώντας ενδοκυττάρια σηματοδοτικά μονοπάτια, μεταξύ \nτων οποίων το μονοπάτι του mTOR. Στόχος της παρούσας μελέτης ήταν η διερεύνηση \nτης βιολογικής σημασίας της PC-2 και ο πιθανός ρόλος της στον καρκίνο όπως στο \nαδενοκαρκίνωμα παχέος εντέρου ή στον καρκίνο του μαστού. Η ανοσοϊστοχημική \nδιερεύνηση έδειξε αυξημένο εντοπισμό της PC-2 αλλά και της PC-1 σε ιστό από \nαδενοκαρκίνωμα παχέος εντέρου σε σχέση με το φυσιολογικό. Παράλληλα \nπαρατηρήθηκε αυξημένη γονιδιακή αλλά και πρωτεϊνική έκφραση σε κύτταρα SW480 \nκαι MCF-7. PC-1 \nfunctions as a receptor coupled to G-proteins and PC-2 functions as a calcium \nion channel.
