      "@value" : "The urothelium is a multi-layered epithelium that extends from the renal pelvis \nto the proximal urethra. It consists of three cell layers: the superficial, the \nintermediate and the basal cell layer. It represents a quiescent epithelium, \nwhich is regenerated promptly, following acute lesions. The aim of this study \nwas to investigate the role of keratin 14 expressing basal cells of the \nurothelium in tissue homeostasis. For this purpose, we performed a \ndevelopmental study, which revealed that keratin 14 expressing cells are \ndistinguishable in mouse embryonic urothelium on Ε16.5. Furthermore, C57bl6 \nadult mice were treated with cyclophosphamide, in order to induce a quick cycle \nof injury and regeneration. KRT14+ cells increased in number six hours after \ninjury, while ten days after treatment their levels tend to be equivalent to \nthose of the control group. Finally, we created two transgenic mice expressing \nCre recombinase under the control of the keratin 14 promoter, for lineage \ntracing experiments. We conclude that KRT14+ cells have the ability to generate \ndifferentiated cells both in the intermediate and in the superficial cell \nlayer. This observation could be an indication that KRT14+ cells constitute a \npossible progenitor cell pool within the basal layer in the urothelium."

      "@value" : "Το ουροθήλιο αποτελεί ένα στρωματοποιημένο επιθήλιο που καλύπτει την \nουρογεννητική οδό από τη νεφρική πύελο μέχρι την ουρήθρα. Αποτελείται από τρείς \nκυτταρικούς τύπους: τα επιφανειακά, τα ενδιάμεσα και τα κύτταρα της βασικής \nστιβάδας και αναγεννάται άμεσα μετά από οξείες βλάβες. Στόχος της συγκεκριμένης \nεργασίας ήταν η μελέτη του ρόλου του κυτταρικού πληθυσμού που εκφράζει την \nκερατίνη 14 στη βασική στιβάδα του ουροθηλίου του ποντικού. Πραγματοποιήσαμε \nμία αναπτυξιακή μελέτη, η οποία αποκάλυψε ότι η έκφραση της κερατίνης 14 στο \nουροθήλιο ανιχνεύεται την Ε16.5, κατά τη διάρκεια της εμβρυϊκής ανάπτυξης του \nποντικού. Παράλληλα, προκαλέσαμε χημικό τραυματισμό του ιστού με \nκυκλοφοσφαμίδη, προκειμένου να επάγουμε έναν γρήγορο κύκλο τραυματισμού και \nαναγέννησης του ενήλικου ουροθηλίου. Τα KRT14+ κύτταρα αυξάνονται σε αριθμό έξι \nώρες μετά τον τραυματισμό του ιστού, ενώ μετά από δέκα ημέρες επανέρχονται στα \nεπίπεδα της ομάδας ελέγχου. Τέλος, δημιουργήσαμε δύο διαγονιδιακά ποντίκια που \nεκφράζουν την ρεκομπινάση Cre υπό τον έλεγχο του υποκινητή του γονιδίου που \nκωδικοποιεί την κερατίνη 14, προκειμένου να πραγματοποιήσουμε πειράματα \nγενεαλογικού εντοπισμού. Διαπιστώσαμε ότι KRT14+ κύτταρα παράγουν \nδιαφοροποιημένους κυτταρικούς τύπους που εποικίζουν τις ανώτερες στιβάδες του \nουροθηλίου, γεγονός που αποτελεί ένδειξη ότι τα συγκεκριμένα κύτταρα πιθανότατα \nσυνιστούν τον πλέον αρχέγονο κυτταρικό πληθυσμό του επιθηλίου της ουροδόχου \nκύστης."
