In the framework of the present thesis, the toxicity of a number of selected organic extracts from marine organisms was evaluated against Crematogaster scutellaris ants. Among the 18 extracts investigated, the extract of a soft coral of the genus Sarcophyton, collected from the Red Sea in the Al Fahal region of Saudi Arabia at a depth of 12 m in January 2018, showed the highest levels of toxicity (88-96% mortality in comparison to 4% mortality observed for the control) and was thus selected for investigation of its chemical composition. The selected organic extract was subjected to a series of chromatographic separations resulting in the isolation of 9 metabolites, among which 8 were identified on the basis of their spectroscopic data (NMR and MS). Στα πλαίσια της παρούσας εργασίας αριθμός επιλεγμένων οργανικών εκχυλισμάτων από θαλάσσιους οργανισμούς αξιολογήθηκε ως προς την τοξικότητα τους σε μυρμήγκια του είδους Crematogaster scutellaris. Εκ των 18 εκχυλισμάτων που μελετήθηκαν, το εκχύλισμα ενός μαλακού κοραλλιού του γένους Sarcophyton, το οποίο συλλέχθηκε από την Ερυθρά Θάλασσα στην περιοχή Al Fahal της Σαουδικής Αραβίας σε βάθος 12 m τον Ιανουάριο του 2018, επέδειξε την υψηλότερη δράση (θνησιμότητα 88-96% σε σχέση με τον μάρτυρα που εμφάνισε θνησιμότητα 4%) και επιλέχθηκε προς μελέτη του χημικού του προφίλ. Ακολούθως, το οργανικό εκχύλισμα υποβλήθηκε σε σειρά χρωματογραφικών διαχωρισμών με αποτέλεσμα την απομόνωση 9 ουσιών, εκ των οποίων μέχρι στιγμής έχουν ταυτοποιηθεί μέσω φασματοσκοπικών μεθόδων (NMR και MS) 8 δευτερογενείς μεταβολίτες.
