Ακόμη και σήμερα, την εποχή της τεχνολογικής υπεροχής ο ίππος έχει ως φοίνικας αναγεννηθεί από το περιθώριο όπου τον εξόρισαν και λαμβάνει ενεργό ρόλο σε ένα εντελώς άλλο πεδίο, ως θεραπευτής πια για παιδιά με ειδικές ανάγκες, ασθενείς που έχουν υποστεί βλάβες σωματικές και ψυχολογικές. Η εργασία τούτη αποπειράται να ρίξει φως στα χαρίσματα του ίππου, άγνωστα κατά κύριο λόγο, την αισθαντικότητα, τη συμπόνια, το πλούσιο έμψυχο δυναμικό του. Με όλες τις αισθήσεις του και την ανεξερεύνητη έκτη , την ατελεύτητη υπομονή και αφοσίωση του παραστέκει τους φίλους - ανθρώπους και αγωνίζεται μαζί τους. Ανεκδοτικά και επιστημονικά στοιχεία, ερευνητικά δεδομένα και εκπονήματα επί του πεδίου αποδεικνύουν την εναλλακτική μα καθόλα ουσιώδη συνεισφορά του ίππου στην φυσιολογική και ψυχική αποκατάσταση. Δίχως να γίνεται θαυματοποιός συμβάλλει τα μάλα στην επίτευξη θεραπευτικής προόδου όπου κοινές πρακτικές αποτυγχάνουν. Η καλή του πίστη είναι πέραν πάσης αμφιβολίας, όμως ο άνθρωπος στην αλαζονεία του θα αναγνωρίσει την προσφορά του ίππου, θα του αποδώσει τα εύσημα που δικαιωματικά του ανήκουν από την πρώτη ώρα που στάθηκε δίπλα του, φρούρός ακοίμητος, ακούραστος αρωγός της προόδου και ευημερίας του; Το ευχόμαστε ολόκαρδα.Horse King, the archetypical pioneer, this uniquely intelligent and empathetic mammal has blessed us humans down to the last ounce of his blood for eons of years. Even in this late day and age of technological supremacy Horse has managed as a phoenix to be reborn after he was deemed useless and superfluous for so long a time and take an active part, though on a whole other front, in man’s world as healer and therapist for children with special needs, patients suffering from severe impairment, psychological or mental disorders and anxieties. This thesis attempts to shed some light into the unknown face of Horse, his extreme propensity for compassion and sensibility; with his sixth sense and indefatigable patience and devotion he stands by his human friends and toils alongside them. Not only anecdotal information but scientific evidence, research data and field results have recognized Horse’s alternative but nonetheless substantial contribution to physiological and mental rehabilitation. Horse cannot bring back what once was lost or was never there in the first place yet he serves with purpose in achieving therapeutic ends where common practices will take longer or fail to yield promising signs of relief and betterment. Horse’s unstinting loyalty is proven yet again beyond the shadow of doubt; shall humans in their arrogance fall one more time short of the mark and not raise this stupendous creature on the pedestal he so meritoriously deserves?
