      "@value" : "Postoperative delirium is a common, serious but often preventable and treatable complication of all kinds of surgeries. It increases hospital stay by 2-3 days or more and is associated with a 30-day mortality of 7-10%. Commonly it occurs between postoperative days 2-5. Its incidence in the general surgical population is reported to be 2-3%, but it could get up to 50-70% in high-risk patients. To date, the most effective approach to delirium management is the identification of the risk factors of each patient and their amendment in order to minimize the chances of its emerging during the postoperative period."

Συνήθως εμφανίζεται κατά τη 2η- 5η μετεγχειρητική ημέρα. Η επίπτωση του στο γενικό πληθυσμό εκτιμάται στο 2-3%, αλλά μπορεί να φτάσει μέχρι και 70% σε ασθενείς υψηλού κινδύνου. Μέχρι σήμερα, η πιο αποτελεσματική διαχείριση περιλαμβάνει την αναγνώριση των παραγόντων κινδύνου του παραληρήματος κατά τον προεγχειρητικό έλεγχο του ασθενούς και την τροποποίηση όσων είναι εφικτό για τον περιορισμό της πιθανότητας εμφάνισης μετεγχειρητικά"
