      "@value" : "The intensification of livestock farming to meet global nutritional needs has led to the adoption of practices with negative welfare implications. Consumer pressure for food production that respects the welfare criteria of animals has focused the attention of researchers, legislators, industry and primary sector representatives on investigating appropriate methods to assess and enhance welfare.\nThere is a plethora of protocols and methodologies for recording welfare assessment data. However, those methods are usually time-consuming, do not represent the whole population of the animals in each farm and involve the criterion of subjectivity of the assessors. The automation of the assessment process through the use of precision livestock farming (PLF) technologies allows a continuous, real-time, more objective assessment of welfare indicators. Those technologies mainly involve the use of sensors and recorders, which collect data on the behaviour of animals in terms of food and water consumption, mobility, aggression, isolation, morbidity, environmental conditions, etc. The algorithms developed are used to process the data and draw conclusions in order to make decisions and propose appropriate management interventions. The aim of the present study is to review the literature on the technologies that have been developed to assess the welfare of farm animals. Furthermore, the implementation of innovative technologies for welfare improvement, in different species of productive animals, is discussed."

      "@value" : "Η εντατικοποίηση της εκτροφής των παραγωγικών ζώων για την κάλυψη των παγκόσμιων διατροφικών αναγκών οδήγησε στην υιοθέτηση πρακτικών με αρνητικές επιπτώσεις για την ευζωία τους. Η άσκηση πιέσεων από τους καταναλωτές για την παραγωγή τροφίμων με σεβασμό στα κριτήρια σωστής διαβίωσης των εκτρεφόμενων ζώων έστρεψε το ενδιαφέρον των ερευνητών, νομοθετών, εκπροσώπων της βιομηχανίας και του πρωτογενούς τομέα στη διερεύνηση των κατάλληλων μεθόδων εκτίμησης και ενίσχυσης της ευζωίας.\nΥπάρχει μια πληθώρα πρωτοκόλλων και μεθοδολογιών καταγραφής δεδομένων αξιολόγησης της ευζωίας ανάλογα με το είδος του ζώου. Ωστόσο, αυτές οι καταγραφές είναι συνήθως χρονοβόρες, δεν καλύπτουν το σύνολο των ζώων της εκτροφής, ενώ ενέχουν και το κριτήριο της υποκειμενικότητας των αξιολογητών. Η αυτοματοποίηση της διαδικασίας αξιολόγησης μέσω της χρήσης τεχνολογιών κτηνοτροφίας ακριβείας (PLF, precision livestock farming) επιτρέπει τη συνεχή, σε πραγματικό χρόνο, αντικειμενικότερη εκτίμηση των δεικτών ευζωίας των εκτρεφόμενων ζώων. Οι τεχνολογίες αυτές αφορούν κυρίως τη χρήση αισθητήρων και καταγραφικών, που συλλέγουν δεδομένα σχετικά με τη συμπεριφορά των ζώων κατά την κατανάλωση τροφής και νερού, την κινητικότητα τους, την εκδήλωση επιθετικότητας, απομόνωσης, νοσηρότητας, τις περιβαλλοντικές συνθήκες, κ.ά. Μέσω των αλγορίθμων που αναπτύσσονται γίνεται η επεξεργασία των δεδομένων και η εξαγωγή συμπερασμάτων, ώστε να ληφθούν αποφάσεις και να προταθούν οι ανάλογες διαχειριστικές παρεμβάσεις. Στόχος της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση των τεχνολογιών που έχουν αναπτυχθεί για την αξιολόγηση της ευζωίας των παραγωγικών ζώων. Παράλληλα, γίνεται αναφορά στα είδη των παραγωγικών ζώων όπου έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί οι περισσότερες εφαρμογές και αναλύεται ο τρόπος αξιοποίησης των καινοτομιών αυτών για την ενίσχυση της ευζωίας τους."
