Με την επιδείνωση των πολιτικών και οικονομικών συνθηκών σε πολλές χώρες της περιοχής, οι πολίτες βρίσκονται σε αναζήτηση καλύτερων συνθηκών ζωής και ασφάλειας, προκαλώντας έναν αυξανόμενο ρυθμό μετανάστευσης. Η παρούσα μεταπτυχιακή διπλωματική εργασία επιχειρεί να εξετάσει εκτενώς το μεταναστευτικό φαινόμενο στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο, αναλύοντας τις αιτίες, τις συνέπειες και τις προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν τόσο οι χώρες προέλευσης όσο και οι χώρες προορισμού.\nΠρέπει να γίνει σαφές πως σκοπός της εν λόγω εργασίας είναι κυρίως η επικαιροποίηση εκ νέου του ζητήματος και η υπογράμμιση των πολλών κινδύνων που ελλοχεύουν στην επικρατούσα αντιμετώπισή του από την ελληνική αλλά και την ευρωπαϊκή πολιτεία συνολικά. Είναι ευρέως γνωστό πως η αθρόα μετανάστευση αλλοφύλων και αλλοθρήσκων πληθυσμών σε ευρωπαϊκό έδαφος δεν είναι φαινόμενο της τελευταίας δεκαετίας. Αποτέλεσε όμως εξ αρχής ένα πεδίο σφοδρής αντιπαράθεσης τόσο στο εσωτερικό των ευρωπαϊκών θεσμών και οργανισμών, όσο και στο εσωτερικό των κρατών μελών της ΕΕ ξεχωριστά."

With the worsening political and economic conditions in many countries in the region, citizens are in search of better living conditions and security, causing an increasing rate of migration. This master's thesis attempts to comprehensively examine the migration phenomenon in the eastern Mediterranean, analyzing the causes, consequences and challenges faced by both countries of origin and countries of destination.\nIt must be made clear that the purpose of this work is mainly to bring the issue up to date again and to underline the many risks inherent in the prevailing treatment of it by the Greek and European states as a whole. It is widely known that the mass immigration of allosexual and non-religious populations on European soil is not a phenomenon of the last decade. But from the beginning it was a field of intense confrontation both within the European institutions and organizations, and within the EU member states individually."
