    "description" : [ "In the present Doctoral Thesis we are attempting to examine the existence of a contemporary model for the statistical recording and monitoring of urbanization in Europe and the possibility of its application in Greece. Our approach emphasizes in the functional dimension of urbanization, thus incorporating the phenomenon of ‘exurbanization’. The first part treats of the conceptual and theoretical framework relative to the concepts and the multiple approaches of the contemporary forms of urbanization and their close relation with the parameter of mobility. There is also an extended overview of the major models that have been adopted by the official statistical systems of other countries, concerning the definition and the monitoring of functional urbanization. In the second part, the designation of Functional Urban Areas in Greece is proposed, using a model based on that of Eurostat’s ‘Larger Urban Zones’. Using the data from the last two population censuses, we illuminate the particular dynamics of the outer zones of the F.U.As of the country for the period 1991 to 2001. The conclusions are particularly emphasizing to the need of a new statistical zoning of the greek territory, based upon the criterion of its functional urbanization, which would offer a basic methodological instrument for the monitoring of the demographic evolutions in the country’s rapidly growing ‘exurban zones’.", "Στην παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή επιχειρούμε να διερευνήσουμε κατά πόσο έχει αρχίσει να διαμορφώνεται στην Ευρώπη και μπορεί να προταθεί για την Ελλάδα ένα σύγχρονο πρότυπο για την στατιστική καταγραφή και παρακολούθηση της αστικοποίησης. Ένα τέτοιο πρότυπο έχει ως βασική προϋπόθεση την χρήση κοινών ορισμών και διαλειτουργικών χωρικών ονοματολογιών και αναφέρεται στην σύγχρονη προσέγγιση της αστικοποίησης, η οποία δίνει έμφαση στην λειτουργική διάσταση της, ενσωματώνοντας έτσι το φαινόμενο της περιαστικοποίησης. Στο πρώτο μέρος τίθεται το εννοιολογικό και θεωρητικό πλαίσιο σχετικά με τις έννοιες και τις πολύπλευρες προσεγγίσεις που αφορούν τις σύγχρονες μορφές της αστικοποίησης και την στενή σύνδεση τους με την παράμετρο της κινητικότητας. Επίσης γίνεται εκτενής επισκόπηση των σημαντικότερων προτύπων που έχουν υιοθετηθεί από επίσημα στατιστικά συστήματα άλλων χωρών και αφορούν τον προσδιορισμό και την παρακολούθηση της λειτουργικής αστικοποίησης. Στο δεύτερο μέρος επιχειρείται ο προσδιορισμός και η καταγραφή των Λειτουργικών Αστικών Περιοχών στην Ελλάδα, με την χρήση ενός προτύπου που βασίζεται σε αυτό των Ευρύτερων Αστικών Ζωνών’ της Eurostat. Με βάση τα στοιχεία των δύο τελευταίων απογραφών πληθυσμού, αναδεικνύεται η ιδιαίτερη δυναμική των εξωτερικών ζωνών των Λειτουργικών Αστικών Περιοχών της χώρας κατά την περίοδο μεταξύ 1991 και 2001. Η εξαγωγή των συμπερασμάτων επικεντρώνεται ιδιαίτερα στην ανάγκη μιας νέας στατιστικής κατηγοριοποίησης του ελληνικού χώρου, βασισμένης στο κριτήριο της λειτουργικής αστικοποίησης του, η οποία θα προσφέρει ένα πρωταρχικό μεθοδολογικό εργαλείο για την παρακολούθηση των δημογραφικών εξελίξεων στις ραγδαία μετασχηματιζόμενες περιαστικές ζώνες της χώρας." ],
