Στεφανοπούλου-Πλατανιώτη, ΟυρανίαΗ διδακτορική διατριβή, που ακολουθεί εστιάζει στην έννοια του Ενδιάμεσου Χώρου και στους χώρους, που τον ορίζουν εντεύθεν και εκείθεν αυτού, δηλαδή του Δημόσιου και του Ιδιωτικού Χώρου στην Μητρόπολη και την Μετα-μητρόπολη. Επιχειρείται ο ορισμός του Ενδιάμεσου Χώρου σε επίπεδο φιλοσοφικό, κοινωνικό και οικονομικό στην σύγχρονη πολυπολιτισμική πραγματικότητα, του Κυβερνοχώρου και της παγκοσμιοποίησης, αλλά και της εικονικής πραγματικότητας και του σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού, που λειτουργεί σαν κατευθυνόμενη οικονομική βάση. Συνδέεται εδώ ο Ενδιάμεσος Χώρος με την θεωρία για τον Τρίτο Χώρο και τις αναφορές του Edward W. Soja και του Lefebvre, τις έννοιες του Κυβερνοχώρου και τις επιρροές του στον Ενδιάμεσο Χώρο, την αστικοποίηση σαν μορφή κοινωνικής οργάνωσης. Εξετάζεται επίσης και ο ρόλος του πολιτισμού με τις αντανακλάσεις του στον Ενδιάμεσο Χώρο. Γίνεται αναφορά στην παγκοσμιοποίηση του Χώρου της Πόλης, για το που ευρίσκεται σήμερα η ισχύς και με ποιούς τρόπους κατευθύνεται, πως η ισχύς εκφράζεται στον Ενδιάμεσο Χώρο, ποιές θεωρίες και ποιες σύγχρονες σκέψεις συνδέονται με αυτή και που κατευθύνεται. Παράλληλα, εξετάζεται ο Ενδιάμεσος Χώρος σε σχέση με τον υλικό κόσμο της πόλης και την κίνηση, την οικονομία, την Φύση και την Γεωγραφική Ανάπτυξη. Τέλος, επιχειρείται η διερεύνηση του Ενδιάμεσου Χώρου στην Νεοκλασική ελληνική περίοδο και Αρχιτεκτονική, αλλά και στην σύγχρονη ελληνική πόλη και γίνονται παρατηρήσεις, συγκρίσεις και προτροπές για παρεμβάσεις στον Ενδιάμεσο Χώρο λόγω της μεγάλης σπουδαιότητάς του στην μορφή της ελληνικής πόλης. Αναζητούνται οι μελλοντικές αναπαραστάσεις και επιρροές στον Ενδιάμεσο Χώρο με μια νέα κοινωνία και μεσαία τάξη, που διαμορφώνεται κάτω από την σημερινή οικονομική πραγματικότητα.The thesis is concerned with the concept of In-Between Space and the areas which surround and define the latter. That is the public and private spaces in both the Metropolis as well as the Meta-Metropolis eras. A definition of the In-Between Space is attempted with respect to the philosophical, social and financial aspects of the current multicultural reality as well as with respect to the cyberspace, the globalization, the virtual reality and the present culture which is in turn directed by the economy. The In-Between Space is linked to theories on Third Space, in particular, the references by Edward W. Soja and Lefebvre on the latter, the concepts of cyberspace and its effects on the In-Between space and the urbanization as a means of social organization. Additionally, the role of the culture and its reflection on the In-Between Space are studied. The globalization of the urban space is discussed and its current status and its evolution are examined. Furthermore, we consider how power is expressed in the In-Between Space, where it is directed and which theories and modern concepts are related to the former. In addition, the In-Between Space is examined with respect to the materiality and mobility of the city, the economy, the nature and the geographical expansion. Finally, the In-Between Space is not only analyzed in the Neoclassical Greek era and with respect to the corresponding architectural movement, but also within the contemporary Greek city. Some remarks, comparisons and suggestions for interventions in the In-Between Space are proposed as it constitutes a major factor in the formation of the Greek city.
