The master's thesis titled "The Impact of Climate Change on Tourism in Greece" explores how climate change factors influence tourism revenues in Greece. Through econometric time series analysis, the study examines data from 1995 to 2023, focusing on key variables such as average temperature, precipitation, extreme weather events, sunshine hours, and the EUR/USD exchange rate. Initial results from the OLS regression indicate that both the overall model and individual climatic variables are not statistically significant, with an R² coefficient of just 3.5%, suggesting a weak correlation between climate change and tourism revenues. However, diagnostic tests reveal potential methodological challenges, such as multicollinearity, which the study proposes addressing through further model refinements. Despite these preliminary findings, the thesis underscores the complexity of the relationship between climate and tourism, emphasizing the need for further research and policy adjustments to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of climate variability on Greece’s tourism industry.
