In a Europe that has no frontiers, and is now competing in the arena of global economy, the changing needs of our aging society and the ongoing labour market trends require much higher levels of mobility. Labour mobility is an essential tool for effective functioning of single market while it is also essential for many people as it provides them the opportunity for better employment, which is a key objective of Lisbon Strategy. Labour market mobility, either between jobs and/or between Member States or regions is an important component of Europe's response to demographic change and globalization. The purpose of this essay is to present an integrated approach of EU’s labour mobility – in comparison also to US labour mobility - as its necessity is considered to be nowadays very important and crucial for the achievement of European integration.
