Οι κατοπτρικοί νευρώνες εντοπίστηκαν το 1992 στο εργαστήριο πειραματικής ψυχολογίας του πανεπιστημίου της Πάρμα, στην Ιταλία. H ανακάλυψή τους τροφοδότησε, εκ νέου τη συζήτηση σχετικά με την προέλευση της γλώσσας, περιγράφοντας την εξέλιξή της από τη νοηματική στην φωνητική γλώσσα. Το άρθρο παρουσιάζει μία σύντομη εισαγωγή στην ανακάλυψη των κατοπτρικών νευρώνων, εστιάζοντας, παράλληλα τη συνεισφορά τους στην κατανόηση των ανθρώπινων πράξεων και στην προέλευση της γλώσσας. Παρουσιάζει, επίσης, τη θεωρητική συζήτηση τόσο σχετικά με την ύπαρξή των κατοπτρικών νευρώνων όσο και με τον τρόπο λειτουργίας τους. Επιπλέον, γίνεται αναφορά στην κριτική που διατυπώθηκε στο ζήτημα της λειτουργίας τους και της συνεισφοράς τους στην ανθρώπινη επικοινωνία. (EL)
Mirror neurons were discovered in 1992 by Giacomo Rizzolatti and his team at the Laboratory of Experimental Psychology at the University of Parma, Italy. This discovery has triggered a debate about the origins of human language by describing an evolutionary transition from gestures to vocal language. This paper presents a brief introduction to the discovery of the mirror neurons, while focusing on their contribution to human action understanding and to the emergence of the human language. It also presents a discussion regarding the existence of mirror neuronsand their functions. Under this scope, a brief criticism to mirror neuron theory and their contribution in human communication is also presented. (EN)
