Η συγκεκριμένη διατριβή αναφέρεται στην αρχή και την ανάπτυξη της πειρατείας, από την αρχαιότητα μέχρι και πιο πρόσφατα χρόνια, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και πιο πρόσφατων γεγονότων κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας Covid-19. Οι πληγείσες περιοχές, τα κίνητρα για πειρατεία, το συνολικό κόστος και μια λεπτομερής ανάλυση δεδομένων μεταξύ είναι μερικά από τα θέματα που αναφέρονται σε αυτή τη διπλωματική εργασία.
