This dissertation was written as part of my MA in the Classical Archaeology and the Ancient History of Macedonia at the International Hellenic University. It deals with Philip II’s campaign in Thrace in 341-339 B.C. In the introduction I present an overview of the Macedonian state before Philip, then follows the period of his reign, some general information of ancient Thrace and especially the Odrysian kingdom, and the first time that the Odrysians and Philip met each other. The first chapter provides some information about the armies, of both Macedonian and Odrysians, namely the organization and the weaponry; a specific reference is made to Philip’s military reforms, as well. The second chapter is the introduction to the core of my research: the final campaign of Philip against Thrace and the Odrysian king Cersobleptes; in its first part a description of the political context and the reasons for this campaign are provided, while the second part deals with the clash between Philip and the Odrysians. Moving on, the third chapter is describing some parallel events that took place during the campaign, such as Philip’s alliances with local, anti-Odrysian tribes (the Getai and the Scythians) and the Cardian issue. The fourth and final chapter is about the end of the campaign; in this part I have included information about the sieges of Perinthus, Byzantium and the expedition against the Scythians as well. My essay ends with the conclusions of my research. The dissertation is completed with a bibliography and some figures, maps and images. (EN)
