Introduction: The term hippotherapy means treatment with a horse as a helper. The movement of the horse is used as therapeutic support by the therapist for the patient and in this way the treatment is carried out (Sterba JA, 2007). Researches have shown that hippotherapy is effective in improving the gross motor function of individuals with cerebral palsy. In addition, they have shown positive effects in restoring balance and reducing muscle spasticity in these individuals (Laura De Guindos- Sanchez et al.,2020). Aim: The present research, aimed to evaluate the effect of an intensive hippotherapy program, on the functional level of a child with cerebral palsy. Material-Method: The study includes a child with cerebral palsy (spastic tetraplegia) aged 3.5 years. For the evaluation of the functional level of the child, the gross mobility was measured with the evaluation scale GMFM-88 in categories B (sitting position), C (crawling and kneeling) and D (standing) and the GREAT scale, which evaluates his posture body and head on the horse. The physiotherapy intervention included ten sessions of hippotherapy. The program consisted of morning and afternoon treatments for four days and one treatment for two days. The treatment days were continuous. The child was initially evaluated one day before the intervention and re-evaluated one day after the end of the sessions. Results: From the integration of the research there were positive effects on the gross mobility and posture of the child's body and head that were seen through the measurements on the evaluation scales. Conclusions: Performing an intensive hippotherapy program on a child with cerebral palsy is positive and hopeful. The conclusions of the research, however, can not be considered safe and generalized, as the sample consisted of only one child. It is suggested that a research has to be performed on a larger sample of children with cerebral palsy. (EN)
