The aim of this article is to illustrate the effects of the educational essay of John Locke on the «Pedagogia» of Iosepos Moisiodax. John Locke holds an outstanding position among the European thinkers of the 17th century. He was the founder of the developing school of empiricism supported constantly by the positions of eminent philosophers such as Condillac (France), Hume (England) and others. His essay entitled « Some thoughts concerning education» is a simple and comprehensive text based on a number of resources from education, philosophy, medicine, etc. appearing in England, France as well as in the ancient Greek and Latin literature, the Renaissance and post-Renaissance texts, etc. Iosepos Moisiodax, a scholar in the Enlightment period, wrote a compiled essay entitled «Pedagogia». His related thoughts in a number of issues are closed to basic ideas of John Locke on education and some times he transcribes whole fragments from the educational work of John Locke. The writer of this article attempts to illustrate the effects of thoughts of John Locke on the ideas of Iosepos Moisiodax concerning educational issues such as the education of young gentlemen, the newborn child and the role of parents and relatives on his growing up, selection and treatment of teachers by parents, the training of children and the role of teachers, the use of punishment, learning motivation, religious affairs, the awe of the teacher, teaching and language lessons, etc. Some concluding remarks and interpretations concerning these effects are made in the end of this article.
