The Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens welcomes you to its website, which is devoted to its function, its activities and its people. The Department was established in 1932, within the then undivided School of Philosophy, while classes in History, Archaeology and History of Art had been taught systematically in the School already since 1837. It operates as an independent Department since 1984 and combined a long disciplinary tradition with contemporary teaching practice and international research presence. It offers a significant number of Postgraduate Study Programmes, as well as the possibility of PhD and post-doctoral research.
