Particle acceleration in flares

After discussing a few key observational results which seem to indicate a need for new thinking in research on particle acceleration during solar flares, a number of new theoretical ideas are reviewed which indicate that the solar corona is probably full of small magnetic tubes (fibers). The acceleration mechanisms proposes so far are briefly reviewed, and a new acceleration mechanism proposed especially for a fibrous corona is discussed
