Η μέθοδος της αλυσιδωτής αντίδρασης της πολυμεράσης (Polymerasechainreaction, PCR) περιγράφηκε για πρώτη φορά το 1985. Από τότε έχει δημοσιευτεί πληθώρα εργασιών, που αφορούν τις εφαρμογές της μεθόδου στη μελέτη των ιογενών λοιμωδών νοσημάτων. Στην ανασκόπηση αυτή γίνεται σύντομη περιγραφή της μεθόδου και αναφέρονται οι διάφορες παραλλαγές της και τα προβλήματα που μπορεί να προκύψουν κατά την εκτέλεση της. Επιπλέον, παρουσιάζεται, ως εφαρμογή της μεθόδου στην εργαστηριακή διάγνωση των ιογενών λοιμωδών νοσημάτων, η ανίχνευση διάφορων ιών σε παθολογικά υλικά. (EL)
Since the first publication of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 1985, there has been a large number of reports on its applications in the study of viral infections. This review outlines the PCR methodology and its variations, as well as the problems that may be encountered during its performance. Its application in the detection of various viruses in clinical samples is also presented. (EN)
