This dissertation investigates the benefits from investing Greek tourist sector. In particular in examines the factors that contribute to the tourist development of Greece. Greek tourism sector to sustain the weakness and the threats needs structural changes and investment. In that way seasonality will be reduced, sustainable and balanced development will be achieved, improving the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product.
The results of the secondary research indicate that, by far, that there are areas for investment in the Greek tourist industry in areas such as Sun & beach tourism, Nautical tourism, City Break Tourism, Cultural and Religious Tourism, Medical Tourism, Meetings and Incentives (MICE) and Integrated resorts – holiday housing. Moreover, there are connection between investment levels and growth potential in tourist sector as tourist sector participate to the GDP around 18%. Travel & Tourism investment in 2014 was EUR2.8bn, or 13.7% of total investment. It should rise by 3.6% in 2015, and rise by 4.7% pa over the next ten years to EUR4.4bn in 2025 (14.2% of total).
