The objective of the thesis is the designation of fallouts of the Greek financial crisis in the Health
System as well as the significance of the Welfare State in nowadays ominous situation. Firstly, it
is presented an attempt to chronicle the evolution of the Healthcare System and the various
financial, social and political factors that affect it. Furthermore, a brief retrospect of the root
causes and the effects of the global financial crises are illustrated. In the main context of the
thesis it is analyzed how the financial crisis affects public health as well as the problems the
Healthcare System has to confront, so as to fulfil its main goal in terms of elevation, redemption
and retention of the public health. Finally, the Welfare State is defined and its role is depicted in
terms of relieving the fragile groups, which National Health System cannot cover.
