In this paper we review the endoscopic mucosal dissection technique for gastrointestinal malignancies in the perspective of the evolution of flexible endoscopic tools to assist in cutting tissue. The available methods as well as the future technology are analyzed in details. It is concluded that the tools for cutting at flexible endoscopy have evolved substantially on recent years. (EN)
