EUS and EUS-FNA represent the most accurate method for locoregional staging of esophageal carcinoma, and should be performed for local staging in those patients who are good surgical candidates and other imaging techniques (CT, PET) have demonstrated no distant metastases. The presence of EUS as an adjunct for staging is mandatory in buzy thoracic surgery practices. (EN)
