LAUSANNE
Palladium nanoparticles have been prepared in-situ and deposited onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), by self-regulated reduction of palladium acetate. with the aid of sodium dodecyl sulphate. The latter acts both as a good suspender for MWNTs as well as a reducing agent for palladium acetate. The MWNT-Pd-nano hybrid material is soluble in methanol and DMF, has been examined by UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and morphologically characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Finally, the MWNT-Pd-nano hybrid material has shown significant catalytic activity towards the reduction of carbon-carbon double bonds during hydrogenation of olefinic compounds as well as the formation of carbon-carbon bond in Heck reactions, which is higher than when conventional palladium over activated carbon is used.
