RECODE is organizing on the 15th and 16th of January 2015 in Athens, its Final Conference “Open Access to Research Data as a Driver for Open Science”. The conference is organized within EKT/NHRF’s 4th International Open Access Conference@EKT. The interest for the adoption of open access over the past years has broadened its scope and interest from publications to research data. The acknowledgement of the societal and economic benefits resulting from open access to research data, consistent with the notion of open science, has in turn translated in an increasing number of initiatives at both national and international level. Recognizing the importance of enhancing further the transition to an open access ecosystem the RECODE project has provided a forum for European stakeholders to work together on common solutions. RECODE’s work has culminated in the elaboration of policy recommendations in support of open access to research data in Europe targeted to stakeholders identified as key in bringing about change: national governments and research funders; research institutions; data managers; publishers, accompanied by a set of overarching recommendations. The Final Conference will provide a forum for the official presentation of the Recommendations Report and stimulate a wider debate on open access to research data structured around themes identified as key in fostering change including research cultures and the re-use of data. The Conference will focus on the following themes: policies for open access to research data; good practices in enabling the re-use of data; open research data and research cultures; government data; grand challenges and future developments for open access to research data. The Conference is targeted to the project’s key stakeholder groups and brings together an excellent line-up of experts.
