Τhis dissertation deals with the global warming, climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Initially, we provide insights into what governments, companies, international institutions, and other organizations are attempting to accomplish about this issue, as well as the challenges they face. In this line, we analyse how the environment and globalization are linked by creating international environmental law. Next chapters focus on the efforts of UN to promote measures at international level to deal with regional or worldwide environmental problems through international environmental agreements. More specifically, we present the Montreal and the Kyoto Protocol; two of the most effective environmental agreements for reducing pollution emissions. In addition we examine the main parameters of the EU-ETS which is a cornerstone of the European Union's policy to combat climate change and its key tool for reducing industrial greenhouse gas emissions cost-effectively. Finally, conclusions are presented.
