Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό, παρουσιάζεται, με εστίαση στις ΗΠΑ, το κράτος ως προς την εσωτερική, θεσμική του διάρθρωση. Εξετάζονται διαδοχικά η νομοθετική, η εκτελεστική και η δικαστική εξουσία, όσον αφορά τις δομές, τις αρμοδιότητες και τις διαδικασίες τους. Επιπλέον, μελετώνται όψεις της διακυβέρνησης που δεν αντιστοιχούν στο κεντρικό κράτος (πολιτεία, κομητεία, δήμος). Τέλος, αναλύεται χωριστά η γραφειοκρατία (δημόσια διοίκηση).

This chapter presents the State in terms of its internal institutional structure with a focus on the USA. The legislative, executive and judicial branches of government are examined in turn, with regard to their structures, powers and procedures. In addition, aspects of governance that do not correspond to the central state (state, county, municipality) are studied. Finally, bureaucracy (public administration) is analysed separately.
