Τις πρώτες μεταπολεμικές δεκαετίες, πριν ακόμα την εμφάνιση του προσωπικού υπολογιστή, ακαδημαϊκοί σε ερευνητικά πανεπιστήμια της Βρετανίας και της Αμερικής κινητοποίησαν τα μαθηματικά που περιγράφουν σχέσεις και δομές –τα λεγόμενα «μοντέρνα» μαθηματικά– για να «εκμοντερνίσουν» το γνωσιακό πεδίο της αρχιτεκτονικής. Το παρόν κεφάλαιο διερευνά τη χρήση και ευρύτερη σημασία των «μοντέρνων» μαθηματικών για την επινόηση νέων, αλγοριθμικών θεωριών και μεθόδων σχεδιασμού. (EL)
During the first postwar decades, before the advent of the personal computer, academics in Anglo-American research universities mobilized the mathematics of relations and structures — the so-called “modern mathematics”— to “modernize” architectural knowledge. The current chapter examines the use and broader meanings of “modern” mathematics for the invention of new algorithmic theories and methods of design. (EN)
