Οι μελέτες των γεωλόγων έχουν συμβάλει στη μείωση των αρνητικών συνεπειών από τις ανθρώπινες δραστηριότητες στο φυσικό περιβάλλον, έχουν παίξει καθοριστικό ρόλο στην κάλυψη της ζήτησης σε ορυκτά και ενέργεια από τον αυξανόμενο παγκόσμιο πληθυσμό και έχουν περιορίσει τις συνέπειες των φυσικών καταστροφών.

In this chapter, the contribution of geology to society is presented. The studies of geologists have contributed to the reduction of negative impacts from human activities on the natural environment, played a crucial role in meeting the demand for minerals and energy from the growing global population, and mitigated the consequences of natural disasters.
