Απορρέοντας από τον φιλοσοφικό κλάδο της αισθητικής, με επιρροές από την Φαινομενολογία της Αντίληψης, όπως αυτή διατυπώθηκε από Maurice Merleau-Ponty και εμπερικλείοντας στοιχεία της θεωρίας του John Dewey αναφορικά με τη συμβολή της βιωμένης εμπειρίας στο σώμα-πνεύμα αλλά και σε κάθε έκφανση της καθημερινότητας, ο Richard Shusterman διατύπωσε τη θεωρία γύρω από την Σωματαισθητική. Έχοντας ως βασικό άξονα την Σωματαισθητική, εξετάζεται η Επιτελεστική Τέχνη ως μορφή τέχνης που σχετίζεται με το ζωντανό σώμα. Επιχειρείται η συσχέτιση με την εκπαίδευση, μελετώντας τις πτυχές που αγγίζει η Σωματαισθητική στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία και η ανίχνευση τρόπων αξιοποίησης και ένταξης στο εκπαιδευτικό πλαίσιο.

Stem from the philosophy of aesthetics, influenced by the Phenomenology of Perception as formulated by Maurice Merleau-Ponty and encompassing elements of John Dewey’s theory of the contribution of the lived experience to the body-mind, but also in every facet of everyday life, Richard Shusterman articulated the theory of Somaesthetics. Building on Somaesthetics, Performance Art is considered as a form of art related to the living body. It is attempted to correlate all of the above to the educational field, studying the aspects that somaesthetics touches in the educational process, and detecting means of utilization and ways of integration into the educational context.
