Targeted at potential power-line communication applications over the low voltage network, the two-conductor isolated transmission-line model is evaluated with respect to single-phase HF signalling over sheathed indoor tricels. The analytical distributed model is investigated, for which transmission parameters are determined in terms of the cable geometrical dimensions as well as conductor's and dielectric's properties. Verification of the model is performed, involving transfer-function measurements over applicable sample cables in the 1.6-30 MHz spectral area. The measuring methodology is comprehensively analysed and properly established. The experimental results indicate good compliance with the theoretically anticipated behaviour, and the HF model examined turns out well representative of the applicable cable type. Justification of the two-conductor HF transmission-line model for symmetrical sheathed power tricels is thence where novelty of the work presented lies in. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
