The nucleotide 5'-guanosine monophosphate (5'-GMPNa(2)) was irradiated with gamma-rays in aerated aqueous solutions in the absence as well as in the presence of cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II) (cis-DDP). The HPLC data of the radiolysis products suggest that O-2(.-) radicals reduce the Pt(II) complex formed to Pt(I) complex, which finally releases by disproportionation Pt metal, Pt(0). cis-DDP acts as a radiosensitizer and the irradiation in the presence of cis-DDP leads to the release of the base guanine.
