The present paper focuses on the particular morphotactic interest of the morphological combination –αλ-άκι. Based on Dressler Merlini Barbaresi’s (1986, 1994) well-known theoretical analysis and criteria set for the definition of the interfix, we attempt to investigate whether it would be justified to interpret –αλ- as an interfix in relation to other combinations of diminutives suffixes concerning Modern Greek and Italian. In addition, this paper aims to highlight cases in which the interfix is involved in connotative meanings, in strategic uses in speech acts and speech situations, but also to examine whether it can enhance the pragmatic results of diminutives in an utterance (see Dressler Merlini Barbaresi 1994: 542-548).
