Στο πρώτο μέρος της διατριβής αναλύεται το κοινωνιολογικό και ιστορικό πλαίσιο και η πορεία των κοινωνικών εξελίξεων στην Οθωμανική Αυτοκρατορία και τη μεταπελευθερωτική Ελλάδα ως το έτος σταθμός, 1878 κατά τη διάρκεια του οποίου εκδόθηκε η "Σαββατιαία Επιθεώρησις". Στο δεύτερο μέρος της διατριβής γίνεται ανάλυση περιεχομένου της "Σαββατιαίας Επιθεωρήσεως" με κύριο γνώμονα του χαρακτήρα της ως βασικού εκφραστή της ανερχόμενης ελληνικής αστικής τάξης της Κωνσταντινούπολης κατά την περίοδο της πρώτης Συνταγματικής μεταρρύθμισης της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας. Από την επιστημονική έρευνα των δημοσιευμάτων της εφημερίδας γίνεται κατανοητό το επίπεδο του αστικού εκσυγχρονισμού των Ελλήνων της Κωνσταντινούπολης.
The first part of the thesis is an analysis of the sociological and historical frame and the social evolution in the Ottoman Empire and the new Greek State until the year 1878, when the “Savatiea Epitheorisis” was published. The second part of the thesis is an analysis of the articles of the “Savatiea Epitheorisis” with emphasis on the character of this newspaper as a representative sample of the growing Greek capitalists during the period of the First Constitutional reform in the Ottoman Empire. The modernization of the Greek capitalisis of Constantinople is obvious.
