In the following research project the effectiveness of land-levelling with modern laser equipment for agricultural purposes was evaluated. All the experiments were carried out during the cultivation period over three consecutive years, 2006-2007-2008, in the areas of Ag. Athanasios Thessaloniki and Skoutari Serres. In particular field efficiency of three different tractors, in different soil-manipulating actions with different inclinations were measured. The purpose of this research is 1. To define the field efficiency per tractor related to the different tillage systems in field conditions according to the operator?s habitual practices. 2. To pinpoint the elements which influenced the effectiveness of land-levelling. 3. To propose alternative methods to achieve effective land-levelling practice. The above targets were achieved using the appropriate elements which are further analysed in the following chapter. Chapters I, II, III, describe the traditional earth-moving machinery as well as the modern ones and their advantages. In chapter, IV the procedure of traditional and modern land-levelling was described. In chapter, V the description of research areas is defined. In chapter, VII the efficiency of each different tractor was calculated. According to the above results further proposals were put forward: 1.The use of more powerful tractors 2.The choice of the tillage system to be considered as a factor in the effectiveness of land-levelling. 3.The use of new technologies and equipment in order to increase efficiency.
