The present study is a synchronic and diachronic analysis of the megamusical and the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber. In particular it examines the ways in which the aesthetic form of the genre reflects the current post-modern socio-economic structures. It also documents the development of musical theatre and its aesthetic form from the classic Broadway musical to the British megamusical. The overall method of analysis is a historic-marxist on, disclosing the ways in which the capitalist mode of production creates hegemonic forms of ideology, desire and phenomenological perception of the world that determine cultural and aesthetic production.
Η παρούσα μελέτη αποτελεί μια συγχρονική και διαχρονική ανάλυση του υπερμιούζικαλ και συγκεκριμένα των έργων του Άντριου Λόϋντ Γούεμπερ. Η διατριβή εξετάζει το κατά πόσο οι μεταμοντέρνες κοινωνικό-οικονομικές δομές αντανακλώνται στην αισθητική φόρμα του είδους. Επίσης καταγράφεται και η εξέλιξη του μουσικού θεάτρου και της αισθητικής του φόρμας από το κλασικό μιούζικαλ του Μπρόντγουεϊ στο βρετανικό υπερμιούζικαλ. Η όλη μεθοδολογία είναι ιστορική-μαρξιστική. Ο στόχος της είναι να αποκαλύψει τους τρόπους με τους οποίους το καπιταλιστικό σύστημα παραγωγής δημιουργεί ηγεμονικές μορφές ιδεολογίας, επιθυμίας και φαινομενολογικής αντίληψης του κόσμου, οι οποίες καθορίζουν την πολιτισμική και αισθητική παραγωγή.
