INTRODUCTION: The history of regional anesthesia is documented enough in the international literature, but there is nothing about it’s evolution in our country. The aim of our study is to investigate the evolution of regional anesthesia in Greece.METHODS: The data has collected from the interview of old Anesthesiologists, from relatives with the regional anesthesia papers in Acta Hellenica Anaesthesiologica and other medical magazins in Pubmed, which were published from Greek Anesthesiologists. Also, the data has collected from the books of abstracts of the Greek Congresses of Anesthesiology and Regional anesthesia. The searching of the data was done for the time from 1960 until July 2007.RESULTS: The first announcements were appeared in 1967. The big changes in the regional anesthesia were done in the tenth of the 1980. It starts the administration of the opioids epidural and subarachnoidal, the often appearance of publications and the announcement a lot of studies in the congresses. Also were organized the first congresses of regional anesthesia. From 1990 started the continuous administration of medicines in epidural area, the epidural/subarachnoidal anesthesia and the regional analgesia for childs. From 2001 started the implantation of pump with subarachnoidal catheter. Also at the same time started the epidural patient controlled analgesia. Also is presented one significant increase of the foreign language papers from Greek Anesthesiologists.DISCUSSION: The evolution of regional anesthesia in our country is significant and depended from the increase of Anesthesiologists working in the hospitals and the starting of the most of University Anesthesiological Clinics, whereas it seems to be important the offer of the Greek Anesthesiologists in the international literature.
ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ: Η ιστορία της Περιοχικής Αναισθησίας είναι καλά τεκμηριωμένη στη διεθνή βιβλιογραφία, ενώ δεν υπάρχει τίποτα για την εξέλιξή της στην χώρα μας. Σκοπός της έρευνας είναι να μελετήσουμε την εξέλιξη της Περιοχικής Αναισθησίας στην Ελλάδα. ΥΛΙΚΟ ΚΑΙ ΜΕΘΟΔΟΣ: Η συλλογή των στοιχείων έγινε από μαρτυρίες παλαιών συναδέλφων, από τις σχετικές με την Περιοχική Αναισθησία δημοσιεύσεις στην «Ελληνική Αναισθησιολογία» και τα ξενόγλωσσα περιοδικά του PubMed., που έγιναν από Έλληνες Αναισθησιολόγους. Αξιολογήθηκαν επίσης τα πρακτικά των Πανελληνίων Συνεδρίων Αναισθησιολογίας και Περιοχικής Αναισθησίας. Η αναζήτηση των αρχείων έγινε για το χρονικό διάστημα 1960 - Ιούλιος 2007. ΑΠΟΤΕΛΕΣΜΑΤΑ: Η πρώτη δημοσιεύση εμφανίζεται το 1966. Οι μεγάλες αλλαγές γίνονται στη δεκαετία του 1980. Εφαρμόζονται πλέον όλες οι τεχνικές, αρχίζει η προσθήκη οπιοειδών επισκληριδίως και υπαραχνοειδώς, ενώ δημοσιεύονται και παρουσιάζονται πολλές εργασίες στα συνέδρια. Διεξάγονται επίσης τα πρώτα συνέδρια Περιοχικής Αναισθησίας. Από το 1990 αρχίζει η συνεχής χορήγηση φαρμάκων στον επισκληρίδιο χώρο, η συνδυασμένη υπαραχνοειδής – επισκληρίδιος αναισθησία και η Περιοχική Αναλγησία στα παιδιά. Από το 2001 εφαρμόζεται πλέον η μόνιμη εμφύτευση αντλίας και υπαραχνοειδούς καθετήρα και η κατ’ επίκληση επισκληρίδια αναλγησία. Επίσης παρουσιάζεται μια σημαντική αύξηση των ξενόγλωσσων δημοσιεύσεων από Έλληνες Αναισθησιολόγους. ΣΥΖΗΤΗΣΗ: Η εξέλιξη της Περιοχικής Αναισθησίας στην χώρα μας είναι σημαντική και συμβαδίζει με την αύξηση των εργαζόμενων Αναισθησιολόγων στα Νοσοκομεία και την ίδρυση περισσότερων Πανεπιστημιακών Αναισθησιολογικών Κλινικών, ενώ σημαντική φαίνεται να είναι και η προσφορά των Ελλήνων Αναισθησιολόγων στην διεθνή κοινότητα.
