Immigrants and refugees are the ones that experience in the highest possible level of being forced to move away from their homeland, living in insecurity, and suffering from not being welcomed by the dominant social groups of the host countries. Immigrants and refugees in Greece are not an exception. This doctoral dissertation investigates from on hand the socio-cultural aspects of Egyptian and Sudanese communities, and from the other hand, the context in which their children are being raised, balancing among their cultural tradition, Islam religion, and Greek society. Approaching immigrant and refugee communities, we try to highlight the common perspectives of those two socio-cultural statuses, the experiences and expectations of the member of those immigrant communities as well as the establishment of inclusive teaching interventions for the students of immigrants within the context of multicultural education. All children, among them immigrant children, need to be supported by the Greek education system to be empowered to manage their socio-cultural identities as well as make use of the social right of education in order for the students to be able to become equal future citizens of the host country.
Οι μετανάστες/στριες και οι πρόσφυγες, είναι οι άνθρωποι που βιώνουν σε υπέρτατο βαθμό το αίσθημα του «ξεριζωμού», της ανασφάλειας και της ανεπιθύμητης παρουσίας τους, σε όποια χώρα καταφύγουν. Δεν αποτελούν εξαίρεση οι μετανάστες/στριες και οι πρόσφυγες στην Ελλάδα. Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή, ερευνά τις κοινωνικές και πολιτισμικές συνθήκες των κοινοτήτων των Αιγύπτιων και Σουδανών, που ζουν και μεγαλώνουν τα παιδιά τους, ισορροπώντας ανάμεσα στην αραβική παράδοση των οικογενειών, τη θρησκεία του Ισλάμ και την ελληνική κοινωνία. Πλησιάζοντας τις κοινότητες των μεταναστών/στριών και προσφύγων, γίνεται προσπάθεια να αναδυθούν οι κοινές πορείες, οι εμπειρίες και οι προσδοκίες των μελών τους, καθώς και να μελετηθεί η δυνατότητα ενταξιακής πορείας των παιδιών τους μέσα από μορφές διαπολιτισμικής εκπαίδευσης. Αυτά τα παιδιά, όπως και όλα τα παιδιά άλλωστε, χρειάζονται από τις δομές του ελληνικού εκπαιδευτικού συστήματος, ενδυνάμωση να διαχειριστούν τις πολλαπλές ταυτότητες που φέρουν και κάλυψη του κοινωνικού δικαιώματος στην εκπαίδευση, έτσι ώστε να αποτελούν μελλοντικούς ισότιμους πολίτες της χώρας ή οποιασδήποτε άλλης μεριάς του κόσμου βρεθούν.
