This thesis deals with the descriptions of Cities' sieges and falls in byzantine rhetoric and hagiographical texts. From the early Byzantine period until the final collapse of empire, orators and authors of rhetorical and hagiographical texts produced a series of works on the occasion of the siege or the fall of a Byzantine city. The aim of the thesis is not only to record the aforementioned texts, but, also, to examine the images, the motifs and the authoring purpose of these texts.
Η παρούσα διατριβή ασχολέιται με τις περιγραφές πολιορκιών και αλώσεων πόλεων στα βυζαντινά ρητορικά και αγιολογικά κείμενα. Από την πρώιμη βυζαντινή περίοδο μέχρι την τελική κατάρρευση της Κωνσταντινούπολης ρήτορες και συγγραφείς αγιολογικών κειμένων συνέταξαν μια σειρά από έργα με αφορμή την πολιορκία ή την άλωση κάποιας βυζαντινής πόλης. Σκοπός της διατριβής δεν είναι μόνο να καταγράψει τα συγκεκριμένα κειμένα, αλλά να εξετάσει τις εικόνες, τα μοτίβα και το σκοπό συγγραφής τους.
