Σκοπός της διατριβής ήταν η συνεισφορά στο χώρο της Εκκλησιαστικής Γραμματολογίας μέσα από την εξέταση και μελέτη των εγκωμιαστικών λόγων του ιερού Αυγουστίνου. Στην εισαγωγή ανελύσαμε τους εγκωμιαστικούς λόγους και τον κύκλο διαμόφωσης του ιερού Αυγουστίνου ως ρήτορα και κήρυκα. Στη συνέχεια γράψαμε για την αυθεντικότητα των ομιλιών για τους αγίους και μάρτυρες, αναλύοντας τη δομή των ομιλιών όπως και το ύφος και τα λεξιλογικά σχήματα που ανακαλύφθηκαν σ΄ αυτές. Επίσης περιγράψαμε τη διδασκαλία του ιερού Αυγουστίνου για το μαρτύριο και την αγιότητα και εξετάσαμε την αιτία του μαρτυρίου, τις αξιομισθίες των μαρτύρων σε σχέση με τη θεϊκή ανταμοιβή, όπως και άλλα είδη μαρτυρίου. Ύστερα αναφερθήκαμε στη διδασκαλία για την αγιότητα, που παρουσιάζεται ως φως και δόξα των αγίων. Ένα άλλο θέμα που θίξαμε ήταν η διδασκαλία του Αυγουστίνου για την τιμή και τη μίμηση των αγίων. Το γενικό συμπέρασμα είναι ότι οι απόψεις του επισκόπου Ιππώνος δεν είναι πολύ απομακρυσμένες από τη διδασκαλία των ανατολικών Πατέρων για το θέμα του μαρτυρίου και της αγιότητας.
The aim of the present thesis was the contribution to the field of Ecclesiastical Literature through the examination and study of the panegyric homilies of sacred Augustine. In the introduction we analyze the panegyric homilies and the educational cycle of sacred Augustine as orator and preacher. Then we wrote about the authenticity of the sermons on the saints and martyrs, analyzing the structure of the homilies and the style and vocabulary patterns discovered in them. Also we described the sacred Augustine’ s teaching on martyrdom and holiness and we examined the cause of martyrdom, the merits of martyrs in connection with the divine reward and other kinds of martyrdom. Then we referred to the doctrine of holiness, shown as light and glory of the saints. Another subject we touched was the Augustine’ s teaching on the veneration and imitation of the saints. The general conclusion is that the views of the bishop of Hippo is not very remote from the Eastern Fathers’s teaching on the subject of martyrdom and holiness.
