The aim of the present thesis is to give an overall picture of the Cypriot Enosis movement that developed in Athens in the 1930s. After it sketches out the impact that Cyprus revolt of 1931 had on Greece, the paper examines in detail the policy of the Greek governments in Cyprus question in its various aspects and particularly in the issue of Cypriots exiles of 1931, the British policy towards Athens and the Greek consulate in Cyprus, as well as the reactions for any pro-Enosis movement on the Greek territory. At the same time, it presents unknown aspects of the action and presence of Cypriots in Athens, and particularly their organizations, as well as the Greek support to the Cypriot struggle, as expressed mainly through the Central Committee for Cyprus and Athens Press. Furthermore, it displays the few voices that were heard during the period under review in favour of an alternative line in the issue, that of autonomy, as an interim stage towards the ultimate goal of Enosis.
Σκοπός της διατριβής είναι να δώσει μια συνολική εικόνα για την κυπριακή ενωτική κίνηση που αναπτύχθηκε στην Αθήνα τη δεκαετία του 1930. Αφού σκιαγραφήσει την απήχηση που είχε στην Ελλάδα η κυπριακή εξέγερση του 1931, η εργασία εξετάζει αναλυτικά την πολιτική των ελληνικών κυβερνήσεων στο Κυπριακό στις διάφορες πτυχές του και ιδιαίτερα στο θέμα των Κυπρίων εξορίστων του 1931, τη βρετανική πολιτική απέναντι στην Αθήνα και το ελληνικό προξενείο στην Κύπρο, καθώς και τις αντιδράσεις για την όποια ενωτική κίνηση επί ελλαδικού εδάφους. Παράλληλα, παρουσιάζει άγνωστες πτυχές της δράσης και παρουσίας των Κυπρίων στην Αθήνα, και ιδιαίτερα των οργανώσεών τους, καθώς και την ελλαδική συμπαράσταση στον κυπριακό αγώνα, όπως αυτή εκφράστηκε κυρίως μέσω της Κεντρικής υπέρ της Κύπρου Επιτροπής και του αθηναϊκού Τύπου. Προβάλλει ακόμη τις λιγοστές φωνές που ακούστηκαν κατά την υπό εξέταση περίοδο υπέρ μιας εναλλακτικής γραμμής στο ζήτημα, αυτή της αυτονομίας, ως ενδιάμεσο σταθμό προς την Ένωση.
