The present thesis belongs to the field of morphology. The study objective includes the process of compound formation in the Greek Sign Language.Sign Languages have a rich morphology while their morphological structure is closely related to its syntactic function. The process of compound formation in Sign Languages which show high productivity in it and have been studied extensively (British SL, American SL, Swedish SL etc.) is a multifaceted and wide phenomenon, which often exceeds the limits of the particular process or even those of the morphological sector.What is being researched in this thesis is the existence of compounds in Greek SL that fulfill the criteria required to be defined as compound and consequently the elements that differentiate compound from simple Signs and phrases, the rules that define the changes that occur during the process, the relation and the order between the synthetic parts/Signs of the compounds.
Η παρούσα διατριβή ανήκει στο πεδίο της μορφολογίας. Έχει ως αντικείμενο μελέτης τη διαδικασία της σύνθεσης στην Ελληνική Νοηματική Γλώσσα (Ε.Ν.Γ.).Οι Νοηματικές Γλώσσες έχουν πλούσια μορφολογία ενώ η μορφολογική δομή τους είναι στενά συνδεδεμένη με τη συντακτική της λειτουργία. Η διαδικασία της σύνθεσης στις Νοηματικές Γλώσσες που εμφανίζουν υψηλή παραγωγικότητα σε αυτή και έχουν ερευνηθεί εκτενώς (Βρετανική ΝΓ, Αμερικανική ΝΓ, Σουηδική ΝΓ κ.ά.) αποτελεί ένα πολύπτυχο και ευρύτατο φαινόμενο, που συχνά ξεπερνά τα όρια της συγκεκριμένης διαδικασίας ή ακόμα και του μορφολογικού τομέα. Στην παρούσα διατριβή διερευνώνται η ύπαρξη σύνθετων στην Ε.Ν.Γ. που πληρούν τα κριτήρια για να ορίζονται ως σύνθετα και εν συνεχεία τα στοιχεία που διαφοροποιούν τα σύνθετα από τα απλά Νοήματα και τις φράσεις, οι κανόνες που ορίζουν τις αλλαγές που συμβαίνουν κατά τη διαδικασία της σύνθεσης, οι σχέσεις και η σειρά μεταξύ των συστατικών μερών/Νοημάτων των σύνθετων.
