Η παρούσα διατριβή ασχολείται με την αναζήτηση της σημασίας και της ερμηνείας της λέξης αστήρ στην Καινή Διαθήκη. Οι επιστήμες της σημασιολογίας από τη μία και της ερμηνευτικής από την άλλη είναι αυτές που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για να δώσουν στη λέξη το πραγματικό της νόημα. Οι παρουσίες της λέξης ομαδοποιήθηκαν, για τις ανάγκες της εργασίας, σε τρία τμήματα: α) το αστέρι των Μάγων, β) η πτώση ή ο σκοτισμός των αστέρων σαν εσχατολογικό γεγονός, γ) οι παρουσίες της λέξης στην Αποκάλυψη και τις επιστολές Παύλου και Ιούδα. Στα χρόνια της συγγραφής της Καινής Διαθήκης η αστρολογία, ως η μελέτη των σημείων του ουρανού για την πρόβλεψη μελλοντικών γεγονότων, ήταν ιδιαίτερα διαδεδομένη και χρησιμοποιούνταν για την επίτευξη πολιτικών σκοπιμοτήτων. Οι συγγραφείς λοιπόν της Καινής Διαθήκης χρησιμοποιούν τη λέξη αστήρ και κατ' επέκταση την αστρολογία για να μεταδώσουν το δικό τους μήνυμα. Έτσι η αστρολογία, μέσα από τη συμβολική πολιτισμική διάδραση, αποτέλεσε μια μεταγλώσσα που επέτρεψε στους συγγραφείς της Καινής Διαθήκης να δώσουν στη λέξη το δικό τους νόημα. Η σημασία της λέξης αναζητήθηκε διαχρονικά, μέσα από λεξικά, αλλά και συγχρονικά. Η παρουσία κάθε λέξης εξετάστηκε μέσα στην πρόταση, την παράγραφο και το κείμενο. Οι ειδικές συνθήκες συγγραφής, το κοινό στο οποίο απευθύνονταν, ο σκοπός της συγγραφής και η εποχή, τα πραγματολογικά δηλαδή στοιχεία, χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για να εξεταστεί όσο το δυνατόν καλύτερα η λέξη. Άλλωστε η συγχρονία είναι αυτή που δίνει στη λέξη το πραγματικό της νόημα. Επίσης η συμβολική λειτουργία του λόγου με τη μεταφορά και τη μετωνυμία, έδειξε ότι η λέξη χρησιμοποιήθηκε σαν σύμβολο. Παράλληλα παραθέσαμε τις απόψεις διαφόρων ερμηνευτών και εκκλησιαστικών συγγραφέων για τα συγκεκριμένα χωρία. Όλη αυτή η διαδικασία μας οδήγησε στο συμπέρασμα ότι η λέξη χρησιμοποιήθηκε από τους συγγραφείς της Καινής Διαθήκης για να δηλώσει την υπεροχή και την τελική επικράτηση του Ιησού έναντι όλων των άλλων θεών της εποχής.
The present dissertation (thesis) is engaged with the quest of the meaning and the interpretation of the word "star"(astir) in the New Testament. The sciences of semantics on the one hand and of hermeneutics on the other, were used to give the word its real meaning. The presentations of the word were grouped, for the needs of the dissertation, in three parts: a) the star of the Magi, b) the fall or the darkness of the stars as an eschatological event, c) the presentations of the word in the Revelation and the Epistles of Paul and Juda. On the years of the writing of the New Testament, as the study of the signs of stars for the prediction of future events, was widely spread and was especially used for the accomplishment of political purposes. For this reason the writers of the New Testament use the word star (astir) and by extension astrology to put their own message across. As a result astrology, through this symbolic cultural interaction, consisted a "metalanguage" (afterlanguage), that allowed the authors of the New Testament to give the word their own meaning. The meaning of the word was sought diachronically, through dictionaries, but also synchronically. The presence of the word was looked into the sentence, the paragraph and the text. The special writing conditions, the audience to which it was addressed, the aim of the writing and the era, that is to say the factual elements, were used for the best investigation of the word. Besides the synchrony is what gives to the word its real meaning .Likewise the symbolic function of speech through metaphor and metonymy, showed that the word was used as a symbol. At the same time we cited the views of several interpreters and ecclesiastical authors for these specific passages. All this procedure led us to the conclusion that the word was used by the authors of the New Testament to declare the supremacy and finally the dominance of Jesus versus all other gods of His era.
